Biological Systems Flow Analysis

Flow Systems Analysis delves deeply into the body’s unique biochemistry by measuring and identifying key biochemical imbalances found in the urine and saliva. The biochemistry of the urine and saliva is directly reflective of the body’s "terrain" or what is known as the "biological terrain". Flow Systems Analysis allows the identification of any faulty biochemistry so that the underlying causes of illness are addressed rather than merely chasing symptoms.

In addition to highlighting biochemical imbalances, Flow Systems Analysis allows us to use quantitative data to monitor patient progress throughout treatment. Measuring biochemical changes in a quantitative way also enables us to use this tool as a vehicle to maximize athletic performance and recovery.

The results of the testing reveal five potential fundamental biochemical imbalances along with additional supporting data. These potential fundamental imbalances in order of importance are:

Electrolyte Excess/Electrolyte Deficiency – Electrolytes or minerals are the charged particles that convey the ability of fluids to transmit electricity. All of our biochemistry is driven by electrical charge differences that exist between chemicals and the fluid of their environment. Excess or deficient electrolytes in the body lead to both elevated and low blood pressure, revealing one of the major causes of cardiovascular disease.

Anabolic/Catabolic Imbalance - The body should cycle through both a catabolic (breakdown) and an anabolic (build-up) state throughout each day. These states fundamentally shift the way the body uses oxygen and glucose for energy. Many people are biochemically stuck in one of these states. This can lead to blood pressure issues, insomnia, allergies, fatigue as well bowel and digestive disturbances.

Sympathetic/Parasympathetic Imbalance – The autonomic nervous system (ANS) controls all of the body’s internal organs. The ANS decides whether organ systems speed up or slow down. The sympathetic side of the ANS tells the organs to shift into a “fight or flight” state. The parasympathetic side of the ANS tells the organs to shift into a “rest & digest” state. The body should naturally shift in and out of these states; however some patients get stuck in one state or the other. These imbalances significantly affect the body’s ability to heal as well as play a crucial role in hypertension, allergies and asthma.

Fast/Slow Oxidizers – This set of imbalances identifies the speed that a body breaks down food for energy. The more quickly or slowly foods are broken down in the body leads us to the specific foods that balance energy production in a patient. Balancing these abnormalities regulates blood sugar disturbances as well as the disturbances caused by them.

Acid/Alkaline – The body fluids must be kept in a narrow pH range. This is so crucial that the body does everything it can to normalize an out of balance pH. An acidic blood pH is buffered by the body by leaching minerals from the bone. This causes bone loss that will only be minimally affected by calcium supplementation. The underlying acidic condition of the blood must be corrected to stop or reverse any osteoporosis.

Additional tests are performed during Flow Systems Analysis to assess hydration, vitamin C status, oxidation, kidney function, lymphatic congestion, protein intake and output.

pH: The acid/base balance of the body must be maintained within a narrow range or enzymes cannot function effectively. Poor enzyme function affects every bodily function including digestion, detoxification and oxygenation of body tissues.

Mitochondrial function, hormone receptor sites, and many other functions of the body are extremely dependent on pH balance. The trend in healthcare is to try and stay ‘alkaline’ but you never hear which body compartment this is describing.

The doctors at CCNM believe the body goes through different acid/alkaline cycles in different compartments of the body and thus the information needs to be evaluated based on an individualized patient basis.

Redox potential: The oxidation/reduction potential measures the number of electrons available for the body to use. We obtain these electrons from the food we eat. This measurement reflects body function in two ways: energy and antioxidant status.

Free radical damage causes biological ageing. The more a cell is under oxidative stress, the faster it breaks down . . . and this is counter-productive to maintaining optimal health. In order to lessen oxidative stress, your doctor will make several recommendations. It is essential to stimulate and drain the lymphatic system, through the use of homeopathic and herbal drainage remedies, and the use of massage, deep breathing, and exercise.

Invading toxins should be addressed, such as insecticides, mercury (possible from dental fillings), and heavy metals. The diet should be addressed, with special limitation of alcohol, cigarettes, sugar, and non-organic foods. Liver function should be assisted with the use of herbal and homeopathic remedies, plus reduced glutathione.

Stress must be dealt with, as it has such a negative effect on immune function, and enzymatic action within the body. An individual program of nutrients, especially anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals should be followed.

Resistivity: This measures the concentration of minerals in the body. Minerals are vital as they are used to maintain the correct charge across cell membranes and are essential cofactors for enzymes. Enzymes are the mediators of all metabolism or work that is performed in the body, whether it be digestion, muscle contraction, nerve firing, etc. Conductivity tells us about hydration and toxicity as well as global mineral status.

There are several factors that cause changes in resistivity within the patient's body.

These are:

  1. Excess or loss of minerals
  2. Poor kidney function
  3. Electrolyte imbalance
  4. Sluggish and congested lymphatic system

The patient must have an individualized program that detoxifies the lymphatic system through the use of drainage herbals and homeopathic, balances the pH, detoxifies the liver, and aids kidney function. Plenty of pure water, massage, and diet will also be important to changing the r-values for the patient.

This detailed lab testing reveals that similar symptoms can be caused by very different biochemical imbalances in two different people. This means that addressing the same symptom in two different people requires unique treatment specific to the individual. Only by going through the Flow Systems Analysis of urine and saliva assessment can it be determined what these unique treatments should be.
